Day Eight - The One Who Found the Loophole

Time for the morning challenge, Giovani thought as he slipped from bed.
Dominique yawned loudly as the ladies filed into the remodeled room.

"Chess?" Emma asked excitedly.

Gio nodded, waving his hands at the chess stations set up in the room.  "I want a woman who is smart and sexy.  Let's see who can strategize the best!  I challenge you all to a chess tournament.  Winner gets a date with me!"

The girls team up.  Dominique vs. Ariel and Staci vs. Emma.
"Have you ever played before?" Emma asked when Staci frowned with irritation at the pieces.

Staci looked up.  "Uh, yeah. Lots.  You?"
Emma grinned, moving her piece expertly.  "Oh yes. I was on the chess team in high school!"
"Oh great," Staci mumbled under her breath.  "This should be fun..."

Ariel and Dominique settled into a competitive game.
At last, Dominique moved one of her pieces that put Ariel's king in check.
Ariel clapped.  "Well played," she said in congratulations.

Emma and Dominique met at the middle chess table for the last match of the day to see who would go on the date with Giovani.

Emma watched Staci flirt with Giovani and frowned.  It looked like Staci was taking advantage of a small loophole while they finished the competition.  No fair!

"I wish I knew more about chess," Staci was saying.  "Maybe you could teach me sometime.  You're so smart!"

Giovani grinned at the compliment.  "It's pretty easy to pick up," he assured her.
Staci stepped a little closer and lowered her voice.  "Although I don't know how I'd be able to concentrate with you not wearing a shirt!" She dropped her gaze to his chest.  So sexy!

Giovani balked, glancing towards the chess table.  "Umm.. I don't think I should be flirting with you right now, Staci.  I'm supposed to be watching Dominique and Emma.  Maybe you could see what Ariel is up to?"
Staci frowned, disappointed beyond belief.  She'd been having fun with Gio! "Uh, yeah... I'll just go see what she's doing..."  Not!

Giovani checked his watch as the girls chess battled.  He really hadn't thought it would take this long.  But, Dominique and Emma were still going at it.
Few pieces remained...
Emma considered her moves and then moved her knight to protect her Queen.
"Ah HA! Gotcha!" Dominique cheered as she moved her piece to check-mate Emma's king.

Emma blinked.  "Wha...?  How'd I miss that?" she asked with dismay, studying the board.

Domonique smiled politely.  "It happens to all of us.  I was just lucky this time," she added kindly.
"Well played," Emma conceded.
Giovani breathed a sigh of relief.  "Let's go get ready Domonique!"

The Love-Mobile was ready to roll.
"You ready to go?" Giovani asked Dominique as they both buckled their seat belts.

Dominique grinned across the console at him.  "Definitely!  I'm so glad we're going to get to know each other better!"

"Me too," Giovani told her as he put the van into drive.

A short trip later led the couple to the Landgraab science center.
"I arranged a tour of the science complex," he told her, leading her through the double doors with a hand resting on her back.

"Oh, how... er... interesting," Dominique said hesitantly.

It only took Giovani and Dominique about an hour before the tour was done.  By then, they were both ravenous.
"What a romantic date be without a lovely picnic?" Giovani said, leading Dominique to a secluded spot with a blanket spread out and a picnic basket full of food.
"Come eat!" he called out.
Dominique settled on the blanket next to him, but didn't reach for a plate of food.  "I'm not very hungry," she admitted.
So now what?
Dominique and Giovani chatted the rest of the afternoon.

Where are they?  Staci worried, keeping her eyes peeled on the window for the Love-Mobile.

With reluctance, Giovani stood up.  "I guess it's time to get going," he said, reaching down to grab the basket and blanket.

"Oh, right, of course," Dominique said, slightly flustered.  She'd had such a wonderful afternoon with Giovani.  It was disappointing for it to end.

The sun was setting as the Love-Mobile headed home.
